Life is too Short to Stand Still!

Westland, MI. – February 23, 2006 – She cooks, cleans, does embroidery, gambles, bowls, volunteers, does stained glass projects and yet still finds time to meet new friends and help out wherever she can. Meet Westland resident Cathy Kane, 49 years old and full of energy!

“I am a pretty busy person, I like to be with people but I also like having my own apartment and no roommates!”

Cathy lived with her mother until last summer when she moved into her own apartment in Westland. Right now she is looking for a job but is keeping busy with many other things. Most days she finds time to prepare delicious meals, such as Cornish hens and scrumptious apple pies. “There is just something about being in the kitchen that I like. It makes me feel good to start the project and then see it all finished and best of all, eating it! My friend and staff person helps me in the kitchen, but I do most of it myself.”

Since Cathy has been laid off work, she has been volunteering in the kitchen at her apartment complex. She also visits with friends and family and tries to help out her neighbors when she can.

Cathy has a twin brother and they are getting ready to celebrate their birthday together. “I made him a present, I hope he likes it.”

When she isn’t helping out neighbors, Cathy likes to bowl and go to the casino. “My sister Mary takes me to the casino. I am pretty lucky at the slot machines! I have won some money!

Cathy utilizes the services and supports of Community Living Services.
