James Dehem - Chief Executive Officer & President - CEO
Jim Dehem is the President/CEO of Community Living Services as well as President of Friends of CLS, a separate non-profit organization. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from Western Michigan University. He has almost 40 years’ experience working with people with developmental disabilities.
Mr. Dehem also serves as a Director and the Vice Chairperson for the Center for Self-Determination. The Center is an international Training and Technical Assistance Center. He has been employed with Community Living Services since 1989.
Bill Yordy - Chief Financial Officer - CFO
William Yordy brings 35 years of diverse financial experience with 18 years of targeted experience in both the public and private managed care arena. He has a strong background in corporate accounting and finance, financial analysis, management and information technology. Mr. Yordy was employed with Healthcore, Inc./Great Lakes Health Plan as corporate controller for 3 years before being promoted to Chief Financial Officer. He was instrumental in achieving a massive corporate turnaround at HealthCore in 1990 and leading the company from insolvency to equity in one year. Mr. Yordy joined CLS’ executive team in 2003 as Chief Financial Officer.
Manny Singla - Chief Information Officer - CIO
Mr. Singla holds a Master’s of Science in Computer Information Systems from Wayne State University. Mr. Singla joined CLS’ executive team in June 2014 bringing a wealth of executive technology expertise, including management of healthcare information and Electronic Health Records systems, technology architecture and integration, data analytics, strategic analysis, and process improvement. Mr. Singla served as Director of Wayne County’s Health Information Technology Department for 3 years before joining CLS as CIO.
Cynthia Johnson - Vice President of Corporate Affairs
Cynthia Johnson served as CLS’ Corporate Counsel for 26 years before retiring from her law firm and working at CLS as a full-time, regular employee in February 2014. She holds a Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Michigan and a law degree from Michigan State University’s College of Law. Ms. Johnson has extensive experience as an attorney associate and partner/shareholder at local law firms in addition to providing counsel to CLS and other mental health and health care providers. Ms. Johnson Serves as the CLS HIPAA Privacy Officer with oversight responsibility to ensure compliance with HIPAA security requirements.
Paul Newman – Chief Operating Officer - COO
Paul Newman is a Licensed Master’s Social Worker (LMSW) and graduate of the University of Michigan’s School of Social Work. Mr. Newman has diverse experience in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities dating back to 1977. He has worked in a variety of settings including state hospitals, institutions and residential and employment services programs. Mr. Newman has direct experience working with children, adults, and foster, adoptive and birth parents and families. He has held a number of executive positions with the State Department of Mental Health, Wayne Center, and Community Living Services, Inc. Mr. Newman has served as Vice President of Operations/Chief Operating Officer for CLS since December 2006.
He is credentialed as a Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional (QIDP) and Pre-Authorization Reviewer (PAR). Mr. Newman meets educational and experience requirements as a Child Mental Health Professional (CMHP).
Annette Downey – Oakland County Executive Director
Annette Downey is a graduate of Central Michigan University. She is a licensed social worker and currently serves as the Executive Director of Community Living Services’ Oakland County Division. Annette has worked for people with developmental disabilities and mental illness for over 20 years. She is frequently an invited speaker at conferences throughout the state of Michigan and nationally on topics including Person-Centered Planning, Self-Determination, Income Generation for All, and Community First service provision. She is a tireless advocate for systems change aimed at promoting people with disabilities’ right to choose their own life paths and to control who, what, when, where, and how their supports are provided.
Lisa Ballien – Director of Community Support & School Transition
Lisa Ballien is a graduate of the University of Michigan. She is a licensed social worker and currently is the Director of Community Supports at Community Living Services of Oakland County, MI. Lisa has worked with people with developmental disabilities for nearly 25 years. She believes passionately that all people should have the same opportunities in the world, and works to promote that philosophy and to create action steps to make it happen.
