Community Living Service’s Oakland County division

Community Living Service’s Oakland County Division provides supports for people of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Oakland County. We assist people in developing a Person-Centered Plan and then create an individualized budget based on that plan. Our contract with the Oakland County Community Mental Health Authority is designed to assist people in developing and controlling individualized budgets to pay for their authorized supports and services. This puts resources in the hands of people and their families so they can judge whether the services they are receiving are of good value to them. This division of the company offers Self-Determination in its purest sense. Each person supported has an individual budget, utilizes a fiscal intermediary and most people served choose to hire an Independent Supports Coordinator.

CLS/OC connects people/families with qualified individuals and agencies they can interview; the person/ family then decides who they would like to provide their services and supports. A fiscal intermediary then makes payments on the person’s/family’s behalf for the services chosen and provides a monthly budget report, so everyone knows how much their services cost and how much money in their individualized budget has been utilized. This model offers flexibility and creativity regarding how to use the financial resources and whom to choose for services and supports.
